The must-have title for GameCube, Super Smash Bros. Melee is the worthy sequel to the surprise smash (sorry for the pun) hit game for the Nintendo 64. It had a lot to live up to, but it basically does everything SSB did, and a lot better, too. Definitely a must-buy for anyone with a GameCube, but it isn't without its small flaws.

Graphics - Again this game is on played like a 2D game, but with 3D polygonal models, arenas, and backgrounds. The Pokemon from Pokeballs and arena character appearances are also 3D models now (except for Birdo, Mr. Game and Watch and the condor at the top of the Ice Climber's break the targets, but both of those are intended to be 2D). On a side note, Kirby has a kind of mass surrounding his mouth, and although it is odd at first, you'll get used to it.

Music/Sound - Amazing, orchestrated music fills this game. If this game has a CD, I think it'll be worth picking up just to remember back in the NES days when the same songs were played with bloops and bleeps.

Play Control - Although odd at first (due to the controller's face button layout), after about an hour, you'll forget the controller was there. The only little tiff I have with this game is that the distinction between you standing still and pressing B and walking and pressing B is very small, so don't count on using your B-standing move while trying to kill three level nine characters.

Fun Factor - One of the most fun games I've ever played. And I've played a lot of games.

Challenge - The computer is much smarter now, and you'll have your head handed to you a couple of times while trying to get used to the game. Don't go into this game expecting to whip Level 9 characters after being a champ at the first; this game is different enough to turn you from Super Smash Bros. master to Super Smash Bros. Melee loser. The only real problem with this added difficulty, is that the computer will seem invincible some times (especially when you're at event #50 and 51), but be sure to practice, and you won't have that much trouble, and the multi-man melee battles are quite hard (especially 15-minute melee >_<)

Overall: 10/10
